The Restaurant

Nestling on the sunny side of the river Erme valley with a south facing terrace for summer aperitifs, a lounge bar with an open log fire for the chilly winter months and two intimate dining rooms, Plantation House is a food lover’s destination.

“ …an irresistible waft of baking bread, and the heady fragrance of cut herbs;
tangerine sized scallops cut from the shell ; a basket of eggs from the hens;
bowls of raspberries from the walled garden;
stock pots gently simmering… ”

We do not simply seek out the area's finest produce, we also take supplies of ingredients one step further. On our menu therefore you will find not only traditional, classic ingredients such as West Country lamb, beef, duck, pork and cheeses but also wonderfully fresh, seasonal ingredients that have been caught or foraged from nearby shores and estuaries, fields and hedgerows. Expect the first of the wild garlic, rock samphire, elderflowers and edible mushrooms; rod and line caught fish. Seaweeds are gathered, prepared, cooked and paired with local seafood.

Prime young wild fallow venison, rabbits, woodcock and partridge come from neighbouring estates and may be traditionally cooked or, perhaps, home-smoked. We also use vegetables, fruits and herbs from our own and neighbouring gardens, and eggs from our own hens.
